Manama-Mubasher: The Bank of Khartoum (BOK) is seeking to open new branches in the UAE, Kuwait, Nigeria and Chad after it obtained a license to operate in Bahrain, said the bank’s Executive Vice President Salah Abdul Rahim.
The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has granted a license to BOK on Tuesday to open a branch in Bahrain and expand its activities as a wholesale Islamic bank.
The new branch is the first for BOK to be outside Sudan, Abdul Rahim said, adding that BOK is the first Sudanese bank to obtain a license to operate as an Islamic bank in Bahrain.
On the sidelines of the World Islamic Banking Conference 2015, he added that BOK submitted a request to the Central Bank of the UAE for opening a branch in Dubai.
He went on to say that the Sudanese bank is also considering entering the Kuwaiti market.
Commenting on BOK’s expansion plans, Abdul Rahim noted that the bank is attempting to open 50 branches in Sudan to total 130 branches by the end of 2015.
