6.8% growth in manufacturing, extractive industries in december 2025

Egypt Today: The index of manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, climbed to 127.19 in December 2025 (preliminary), compared to 119.04 in November 2025 (final), registering a 6.8 percent increase.

Several sectors contributed to this upward movement. The pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and medicinal products industry recorded an index of 162.93 in December, up from 153.86 in November, reflecting a 5.89 percent rise driven by stronger production activity. The furniture industry posted an even more pronounced increase, with its index surging to 374.26 in December from 233.08 in November, marking a sharp 60.57 percent growth due to expanded output.

In contrast, other industries experienced declines. The leather industry index fell to 38.25 in December, compared to 51.50 in November, representing a 25.73 percent decrease amid weaker export volumes. Likewise, the paper industry recorded an index of 74.99 in December, down from 80.84 in November, reflecting a 7.24 percent decline primarily as a result of production stoppages for maintenance.
