AD Ports to receive Panamax cranes for new terminal in Egypt

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: AD Ports Group is set to receive three new Panamax cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited (ZPMC) for the group’s new multipurpose cargo terminal in Safaga.

The cranes are expected to be operational in the second half (H2) of 2026, according to a press release.

This aligns with the ADX-listed group’s concession agreement signed with the Red Sea Ports Authority (RSPA) to operate a multi-purpose terminal in Safaga Port.

AD Ports is investing AED 193 million in three ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and six hybrid rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for Noatum Ports - Safaga Terminal.

This is in addition to a contract for six STS cranes and 17 hybrid RTG cranes awarded to ZPMC for a value exceeding AED 420 million to be deployed in terminal projects in New East Mole Terminal in Pointe Noire - Republic of the Congo, and Noatum Ports, Luanda Terminal in Angola.

The impending delivery signals the beginning of final preparations for Noatum Ports- Safaga Terminal after appointing Hassan Allam Construction to build the infrastructure of the multipurpose terminal on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.

Noatum Ports-Safaga Terminal will encompass around 810,000 square metres (m2), a 1,000-metre quay wall, with container capacity of 450K TEUs, 5 million tonnes dry bulk and general cargo capacity, 1 million tonnes liquid bulk capacity, Ro-Ro facilities with 50K CEUs capacity, as well as common areas.

Additionally, the multiple facilities will include administration buildings, workshops, warehouses, and authority buildings. This is besides infrastructure development, including roads, utilities, and security systems.

The project will feature a 48,000 m2 concrete apron, an 80,354 m2 container terminal with supporting infrastructure, and nearly 66,360 m2 for general cargo and break-bulk operations.

Ahmed Al Mutawa, Group Regional CEO of AD Ports, said: “Noatum Ports - Safaga Terminal will support Egypt’s economic development with the creation of the Red Sea region’s most modern, efficient terminal facility, which will vastly improve the area’s connectivity and lower costs for traders and businesses.”
