EBRD grants Fawry MSME EGP 250m facility to accelerate youth-led SME projects

Cairo – Mubasher: Fawry MSME Finance, a fully owned subsidiary of Fawry for Banking Technology and Electronic Payments, has secured EGP 250 million in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The facility will enable the company to expand financing to youth-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), according to a press release.

Provided under EBRD’s Youth in Business program, the investment will enhance accessibility and affordability of finance through a first-loss risk cover of up to 10%, alongside EU-funded investment grants that provide cash incentives of up to 10% of the loan value for eligible borrowers.

Both sides will team up to support program implementation, bolster operational capacity, and advance gender-responsive lending practices.

Meanwhile, the program will provide tailored advisory support to accelerate Fawry MSME Finance’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.

Furthermore, the EBRD Advice for Small Businesses program will deliver non-financial support to participating youth-led enterprises, enhancing their growth and sustainability prospects.

The initiative aligns with the state’s objectives to promote financial inclusion and stimulate entrepreneurship, as well as with international efforts to support sustainable economic development.

Ashraf Sabry, CEO of Fawry, commented: “We are proud to partner with EBRD on this strategic initiative, which enables us to further expand our tailored financial solutions for young entrepreneurs across Egypt. This collaboration aligns with our mission to drive financial inclusion and empower the next generation of business leaders.”

Acting CEO of Fawry MSME, Mahmoud Arafa, said: “The facility will help scale our MSME platform to better serve young entrepreneurs with fast, digital financing, while expanding into underserved segments through a combination of funding, risk-sharing, and technology-driven, disciplined growth.”

In May 2025, the subsidiary completed its first securitization issuance at EGP 497.50 million.
