Egypt C.bank plays role in equipping region’s 1st National Liver Transplant Center

Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has contributed to equipping the new National Liver Transplant Center at Mansoura University, enabling the establishment to become the first specialised Liver Transplant Center in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa.

This comes in accordance to the recently launched presidential initiative ‘New Beginning for Human Development’ as the CBE’s contribution with of state-of-the-art medical equipment and necessary medical and non-medical furnishings, according to an official statement.

Equipping the medical center comes in line with the directives of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to ensure a dignified life for all citizens, particularly the most vulnerable segments, and to improve the quality of services provided across all sectors, with special regards to healthcare and education.

The nine-storey new Liver Transplant Center sprawls across 800 m2 and adheres to the latest international medical standards.

It has advanced features including three operating rooms, 14 intensive care beds, five recovery beds, and 56 hospital beds, with dedicated areas for advanced scientific research.

This centre is expected to perform an average of five liver transplants weekly, compared to a previous capacity of only two surgeries. This transformation marks an unprecedented milestone and underscores its substantial capacity increase to serve a larger number of patients from Egypt, Arab countries, and across Africa.

The opening ceremony of the National Liver Transplant Center was held on 26 December 2024, in the presence of Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Ghada Tawfik, Governor’s Advisor for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR); Sherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, alongside a number of officials and medical professionals.

The Governor of the CBE, Hassan Abdalla, stated that the CBE is committed to bolstering efforts that support improving the quality of healthcare services in hospitals and medical centres across Egypt.

He also emphasised that this approach aligns with the presidential mandates aimed at eliminating waiting lists and availing healthcare access for all segments of society, particularly the most vulnerable, through financing projects that contribute to advancing the healthcare sector, in line with the CBE’s direction towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The CBE’s support extends beyond providing the necessary funding for healthcare projects, to encompass backing national healthcare initiatives, as well as extending collaborations with state entities with the aim of improving the quality of healthcare services and contributing to the achievement of health-related SDGs.
