Egypt reportedly to defer planned electricity prices increase to September

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian government is set to postpone increasing electricity prices from July 2024 to September, Asharq Business cited an official source, who preferred to remain anonymous.

The source stated that the decision was made in response to the increased power outage periods.

The Egyptian cabinet took the decision after coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and other relevant authorities to alleviate the burden on citizens, the source added.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that his government will dedicate an additional $1.18 billion to secure LNG and mazut shipments to end blackouts.
