Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's electricity mix to 42% by 2035, according to the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker.
During a meeting with Chris Antonopoulos, CEO of Lekela Power, Shaker revealed that the 2022 target for boosting renewables contribution to 20% has already been reached in 2021, according to a statement on Wednesday.
He noted that the country has allocated 7,650 square kilometres of unused lands to new and renewable energy projects.
As the largest holder of wind power capacities in the MENA region, Egypt has the capacity to produce up to 90 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar power.
