Elsewedy Electric delivers Saad Solar Power Plant in Riyadh; project sets a new regional benchmark

Cairo – Mubasher: Elsewedy Electric for Transmission and Distribution, a subsidiary of Elsewedy Electric Company, has announced the completion and handover of Saad Solar Power Plant in the Saudi capital, according to a press release.

The landmark project that has now officially entered its operations and maintenance phase is located 85 kilometers east of Riyadh, boasting a peak generation capacity of 348.6 megawatts (MW) while positioning it among the significant utility-scale renewable energy assets in Saudi Arabia.

The solar park represents Elsewedy Electric’s first utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Gulf region, commencing in Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, the project underscores the company’s strategic commitment to expanding its footprint across high-growth renewable energy markets and actively supporting the Kingdom’s ambitious clean energy transition.

El Saad solar park sets a new regional benchmark for large-scale, single-site solar development delivered through a fully integrated engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) model while marking a defining milestone for Elsewedy Electric’s regional growth strategy.

It is developed in partnership with Jinko Power and Al Ghazala Energy Company Limited, while the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) serves as the project’s ultimate off-taker. It is worth noting that Elsewedy Electric compressed the original 24-month timeline to just 16.5 months.

The project benefited from the support of OCA Global as consultant, alongside key partners including Elsewedy Transformers, Alfanar, Siemens Energy, and Schneider Electric Saudi Arabia, ensuring seamless and high-quality delivery across all phases.

Beyond the solar generation facility, Elsewedy Electric engineered and delivered a 33/132 kV high-voltage substation and constructed a 600-meter overhead transmission line. The project incorporates advanced PV technology, inverters, power conversion systems, high-voltage interconnection infrastructure, and sophisticated protection and control systems to ensure efficient, reliable, and resilient performance.

In late 2025, Elsewedy Electric KSA launched the $40 million factory in Elsewedy Industrial Complex, with a strategic investment of more than SAR 75 million that is dedicated to producing cable accessories and glass-fiber-reinforced polymer poles. In addition, the EGX-listed company unveiled expansion plans in two Gulf countries in line with its growth strategy.
