Qatar’s Hamad International Airport among fastest growing globally - Minister

Doha - Mubasher: Hamad International Airport (HIA) is seen as one of the fastest growing airports globally and is an integral part of Qatar's long-term development strategy, The Peninsula Qatar reported, citing minister of transport and communications Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti as saying.

“HIA has achieved high efficiency and capacity rates over the past few years, making it the fastest growing airport in the world in addition to ranking the sixth best airport in the world, as voted by passengers,” Al Sulaiti stated in his opening speech at the 12th ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, Conference & Exhibition at the St Regis Hotel.

In the course of three years, the Qatari airport succeeded in becoming a “highly ranked” airport internationally, he added, noting that the country’s national airline, Qatar Airways, succeeded in expanding to around 150 destinations worldwide.

HIA is currently working on developing the services it provides through its new management as it seeks to boost the airport's development progress in order to maintain its international position for passengers and air cargo, the minister said.

Al Sulaiti encouraged members of the aviation industry to work on enhancing their performance and effectively contribute to eco-friendly practices.

“Hamad International Airport is the best example to illustrate what other airports in the region are experiencing and what ACI has been promoting – the excellence of airport operations and management. We will continue to develop programmes and tools to help our members achieve improvements in safety and security,” Kerrie Mather, president of ACI Asia-Pacific said, according to the paper.
