Riyadh – Mubasher: The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has launched a new platform for member states and international partner organisations under the name DCO Diplomatic Connect to become a space for open and constructive dialogues among nations.
The inauguration of DCO Diplomatic Connect platform was announced on 12 April during a DCO gathering in Riyadh to discuss diplomacy in the digital era and boost international cooperation on building an international digital economy.
Secretary-General of the DCO, Deemah Al Yahya, commented: "As we continue to navigate the challenges of the digital age, we recognise the critical need to bridge the gap between digital and diplomacy.”
Al Yahya added: “Through this initiative, we aim to facilitate the sharing of best practices, knowledge, and experience to promote cooperation on the digital economy.”
Meanwhile, Corneliu Bjola, an Associate Professor of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Oxford and the Head of the Oxford Digital Diplomacy Research Group, said: “Digital diplomacy is not a static phenomenon, but rather a dynamic and disruptive process, influenced by the changing nature of power and technology in the global context.”
Bjola elaborated: “Digital technologies have enabled new modes of diplomatic communication, collaboration, and representation, introduced new actors and stakeholders in the diplomatic arena and they have generated new agendas and issues for diplomatic engagement.”
DCO Diplomatic Connect is part of Saudi Arabia-based DCO's multi-level strategy to endorse cooperation and bring together stakeholders from different sectors to develop solutions capable of facing the challenges of the digital divide.
