Trade exchange between Egypt, Greece hits $1bn in H1-21

Cairo – Mubasher: Bilateral trade between Egypt and Greece jumped by 112.8% year-on-year (YoY) to $1 billion in the first half (H1) of 2021, compared to $477.6 million, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). 

Egypt's exports to Greece surged by 194.9% to $807.4 million in the January-June period, compared to $273.8 million in the corresponding period a year earlier, the CAPMAS said in a statement on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, the Greek exports to the most populous Arab nation amounted to $209.1 million in H1-21, up by 2.6% YoY from $203.8 million. 

Remittances of Egyptians working in Greece stood at $8.4 million in fiscal year (FY) 2018/2019, an increase of 18.7% from $7.1 million in FY17/18, while remittances from the Greek people working in Egypt grew by 23.4% YoY to $2.2 million from $1.8 million. 

The number of Egyptians living in Greece amounted to about 30,000 at the end of 2020.
